Recent Lapbooks

We used this book from the library to create our own lapbook (in notebook form)for Science.
Since we created our own, I needed lapbook pieces and found exactly what I needed from homeschoolshare.com.  *I love that website.  Here is the link to the blank templates where you can print out which ones you choose.

We just completed a labook on Benjamin Franklin.
I really wanted the girls to study him so we got off the subject of electricity, and they read biographies and completed this lapbook found off of homeschoolshare.com.
If I had time, I would love to throw more inventors and people of great historical importance in our curriculum.
It was also a good introduction into the American Revolution.

Prior to the American Revolution, we studied the French and Indian War.
It is a war that is often forgotten, and it and George Washington's role as a young General.
I found the lapbook on another favorite website.
You will have to scroll down to the bottom to find the files for the lapbook.
The best thing about this one is that it, besides it is bright and colorful, was that there wasn't a lot of writing required.  We were short on time and spent the bulk of our French and Indian War education reading living books from the library.  Here is the book that we used most.

Proud mom bragging moment

Each year, my girls do not disappoint me in completing their Awana books.
Each year, I am amazed at the amount of scripture they have memorized and hid into their sweet lil' hearts.
Check out the following links to my original blog posts describing the AWANA program and what it entails.

Awards are this Sunday evening so, undoubtedly, there will be more pictures to come.

Last night's theme was super-store blowout.
The store discounts their prices and children who have saved their Awana shares can clear the store out.
Emily had over 200 shares and this is a picture of her loot.
She still has over 100 shares left.  She couldn't find anything else worth buying so I guess she will save it up for next year.
At least she didn't come home with one of these.

Ladies Banquet at Church

Our church held its annual ladies banquet (formerly known as Mother-Daughter Banquet)
and it was a blessing as usual.  Being able to fellowship with other ladies from church is always special to me.
Both my girls were asked to sing specials and I think they did a fabulous job.
Hearing these girls sing for the Lord makes my heart swell knowing what the world would have them sing instead.
*It was very dark in there as they had us in an 'under the sea' atmosphere.

To go with the sea theme, the girls blew bubbles as ladies walked in.

A skit performed by our Pastor and Mr. Scott.

Rebecca and her friend.

Rebecca seems to bring out the little girl in some
of those who act so much older than their 12 years.

Beware

When you come to my house, I will put you to work.
Thankfully, she is still at the age where it is fun.

So, any volunteers to come over for a visit?

Saturday Soccer: Two games at once

Both the girls games were overlapping which has it's good side and it's bad side.
Good that we can get soccer over and done with at one time so we can get on without day- beneficial on extremely hot or cold days.
Bad that we cannot see both girls play at the same time.  Thankfully, their fields are next to each other, only separated by a fence and big hill. You can stand in one place and watch both, but it's like watching a ping-pong game.  Back and forth... You can easily get caught up in one game and miss out on the other.
This Saturday, Emily played goalie the first half for the first time.  Let me tell you, she was a BEAST!  She did such a great job that I started to tear up- maybe that was the hormones talking though.
Hope you enjoy the pictures and if you ever get a chance, come on out and catch a game or two!

Emily was right where ever the ball was.

Rebecca played midfield and is always pretty aggressive.

That girl was pushing just a bit to get the ball...

but you see who was faster, huh?

Emily has some great throw ins.

great form

Back to Rebecca...still playing aggressively.

ping-pong-ing it back to Emily who played forward the second half

Easter 2012

Here are a few pictures that I was able to get of the girls on Easter Sunday.
They humored me quite nicely, I think.

Ethan's Second Day

Emily took a pretty good picture

Wild child

She wasn't quite sure about this whole new baby brother thing just yet.
*She has adjusted and loves her baby brother.  She is young therefore it didn't take long.
