Earthquake, Hurricane, Oh My

They say natural disasters come in threes.  I know my God is mightier than that so I believe that we will be good with just the earthquake and hurricane that has blown through Virginia and surrounding East Coast states.

We didn't receive any damage from either natural disaster, thank the Lord!

I actually didn't even feel the 5.8 earthquake since I was driving.  Disappointing.

I seriously did not think that we would have any effects from Hurricane Irene due to the fact that the weather men continuously downgraded it throughout the day prior to it making landfall.  It did not take the recommended path and do as much damage as they thought.  It's always better to err on the side of caution, I know.  We went ahead and cancelled Emily's birthday party anyways.  It was a wise decision.
Around 2:30pm the wind really picked up.  With the absence of thunder and lightening, it was pleasant storm.  Our power was knocked out at 5 pm.  We were without power for 27 and a half hours.  It wasn't as bad as you would think.  We ran our generator to keep the fridges (yes, both of them), the ceiling fan, and tv.
While Jay spent time watching tv, the girls and I had makeovers, played in the rain, and read.  Jay played a lively game of monopoly and we all played other board games.  The girls weren't allowed to watch tv (a typical household rule), but there was no complaining of boredom around here.  They filled in their time playing games, the piano, and American Girl dolls.  They even put on their swim suits, played in the bathtub full of cold water and walked around the house 12 times timing themselves, weird I know!
Now that the power is back on, we are back to our Sunday evening ritual and preparing for school in the morning!
